10 Pairs of Shoes Worth Splurging On

It has long been said that shoes make the man. This is a philosophy I live by. No matter what outfit I choose, my look is never complete without the right pair of shoes. I am a budget conscious person by nature. I write online for a living so shelling out a lot of money on a pair of shoes isn’t always an option. With that said, I think it’s important for a girl to treat herself to a little something special every now and again. Have a little extra money to spend and looking for a treat? The shoes on this list are ten pairs of shoes worth splurging on and are a great way to give yourself a little pat on the back for all of your hard work. Before we begin though, a quick note: If you’re buying in store, try your shoes on and walk around the store a few times. This helps you really get a feeling for whether or not you’re going to be able to wear the shoes comfortably. Your new shoes will be no good to you if they’re going to stay in the box and never get worn. Splurging means spending a little extra on something you’ll use, even if not very often. Spending a little extra on something you’ll never wear isn’t splurging. It’s just flat out wasting money.

Jessica Simpson Waleo Stiletto Heels

10: Stilettos

Stilettos are a must have for any women, even if you don’t wear them often. I rarely slip my tootsies into my stilettos, but when I do, I always feel like a supermodel. Adding height to your frame and definition to your legs, stilettos are an instant confidence booster. I like the Jessica Simpson Waleo heels because they’re surprisingly comfortable and definitely have the “wow” factor. The key to finding great stilettos is giving them a good try out in the store if possible or looking for something with a height you’re comfortable with. You don’t want to go too over the top with your stilettos if you’re not comfortable walking in them. You’ll look awkward and clumsy – clearly something you want to avoid. The Waleo has a 5 1/4 inch heel with a 1 1/2 inch platform. The platform helps make the show much more comfortable and makes them much easier to walk in. If you’re new to stilettos, look for something that has a platform that’s at least an inch, more if the heel is higher.

Sam Edelman Louie Bootie

09: Booties

Booties are comfortable, stylish and versatile. I have a few pairs of booties I keep in near constant rotation in my wardrobe. They look fantastic with just about any kind of outfit depending on the style and color you choose. I’ve chosen to show you Sam Edelman’s Louie Bootie because it’s one of my personal favorites. It’s casual but still chic. It works great with skinny jeans or even a nice, flowing maxi-skirt. Truth be told, though, these killers are probably going to be a bit too pricey for most of us but I’m sharing them as an example of a great bootie. You can get much less expensive options if you’re willing to do a little looking. Luckily, this style is hot right now so just about every shoe designer is trying to get in on the trend. This works well for us as when the market is flooded, the price often drops. You can choose a higher heel on your booties (I have a few pairs of stiletto booties I’m absolutely in love with) if you’d prefer.

Arcopedico Vitoria in Black with Red Leather

08: Mary Janes

Mary Janes are a classic for a reason. They’re stylish, comfortable and fun, offering a wide range of colors and styles so you should be able to find the perfect pair to compliment your wardrobe. I love the Acropedico Vitoria line. It offers that classic Mary Jane feel with delicious comfort but in a wide range of color combinations. I personally like the black and red most but you can also get black on black, pewter on black (also very nice), metallic bronze, metallic gold, green, orange, red on black and supra. Most importantly, these ones are very high quality. They will cost you a little more but they’re definitely worth the splurge.

Leg Avenue Buttons LA420

07: Black Knee High Boots

Black knee high boots may seem like something you’d never wear but trust me – there are outfits out there that just scream for a nice pair of these babies. Like everything else on this list though, you can really go with whatever option works best for you. You can go for flat boots or boots with a heel. You can go with something classic and timeless or you can go with something a little more outrageous. The Leg Avenue Buttons are a great option if you’re looking for black knee high boots with a heel for a few different reasons. While they’re a splurge, they’re not completely out of the price range for the average woman. They’re also incredibly high quality, comfortable and stylish. The button detailing isn’t terribly over the top but it isn’t bland either. I like wearing boots like these ones with shorter, form fitting dresses in bright colors. Nothing grounds a short, bold dress quite like a pair of knee high black boots.

Funtasma Alice 12 Ballet Flats

06: Ballet Flats

Comfortable, stylish and playful, ballet flats are the ideal option for a casual, laid back event where comfort is necessary. I love Funtasma’s Alice ballet flats because, in my opinion, they’re everything ballet flats should be. I like to splurge on items like these ones because I tend to wear ballet flats fairly often (even though my legs hate me for it thanks to their complete dependence on heels) and spending the extra money allows me to go for more high quality products. When you’re looking at something like ballet flats, quality is really important. Saving money is great but not if you have to replace your new shoes after one or two outings. With that said, I do have a full compliment of ballet flats – some I’ve splurged on, some I’ve saved on. I would tell you how many pairs I own but I’m concerned someone will call the hoarders people on me. If you like the look and plan to buy several pairs, you can spend a little less money as it won’t cost you as much to replace them and you’ll have a back up pair or two until you do. If you only plan to own one or two pairs though, definitely splurge for quality.

Funtasma Pump

05: Bold Pumps

I love a good, bold colored pump. The Funtasma Pump is probably my favorite. Although it is available in a few different colors (black, red and white), I’d suggest going for the bold patent red. If you wear these lovely things with a short black dress and throw in a pop of red either on your lips, on a necklace on even on your fingernails, they can really make an outfit pop. They’re definitely a bold look. The heel is tall enough to give a little lift in height and add a little definition to the legs but it’s also short enough that any woman should be able to wear them. They’re also very high quality, meaning they’re durable while still being comfortable. If you’re purchasing these beauties online though, you should know they run about a half size small so if you wear a size seven, you’re going to want to go for a seven and a half. Priced under $50, they may not be as pricey as some of the other shoes on our list but if you’re looking to splurge and $50 just isn’t enough of a splurge for you, pick up a pair in black as well so you’re ready for all occasions.

Vince Camuto Brianne

04: Sandals or Flip Flops

I love, love, love Roman sandals. They’re so comfortable, so stylish and perfect for a warm summer day. So why are they on this list now that we’re heading into winter? Because I think it’s important to have a pair of shoes in your closet for any season at the ready at any given time. You might not be wearing these beauties just yet but come summer, you’ll be glad you splurged on them a little early. I love the Vince Camuto Roman sandals. I love the heel, I love the straps, I love the detail and I love the quality. There is definitely something to be said for a good pair of flip flops or more traditional sandals. I prefer this type but if you’re more comfortable in flip flops, splurge on a really nice pair that will last a few seasons. Concerned your flip flops won’t be as stylish next season? Choose something with a classic, timeless feel instead of going with something ultra trendy.

Sketchers Grand Jams Unlimited

03: Winter Boots

The key to finding a good pair of winter boots is balance. You don’t need to sacrifice fashion for function. Instead, look for a pair of stylish winter boots that are not just fashionable but functional as well. The Sketchers Grand Jams are a great example of just such a pair of boots. They look fantastic with skinny jeans or under a skirt but they also keep your tootsies nice and toasty when the weather takes a turn for the freezing. With rubber soles, suede outer shell and warm faux fur inside, they’re perfect for winter time and the best part? It’s only really a mini splurge but it’ll be well worth it. Treated with respect, these fashionable, functional boots should last you at least two winters – maybe even more. Plus, so comfortable.

Converse Star Player

02: Sneakers

In my oh so humble opinion, nothing says high quality, fashionable, comfortable sneakers like the word “Converse” although I have to admit, I do have a soft spot for Vans as well. The Converse Star Player is a gorgeous sneaker line that gives you a basic, casual sneaker that still looks bold and eye catching while remaining comfortable. I love my shoes. I love heels and boots and all of that but if I had to choose one brand to wear on my feet for the rest of my life, you want to bet it would be Converse. Although you really do pay for that Converse name, it’s well worth it. I once had a pair of these suckers last a good five years with heavy daily use. That is what I call quality, my friends. Of course, you could choose to go another route and choose a gym show or a high top sneaker if you wanted to. The important thing is to make sure you have a good pair of sneakers somewhere in your closet. If you splurge on only one item on this list, I’d really advice making it your sneakers. They might not go with everything, but they’re probably going to take more abuse than any other shoe in your closet. If you want them to last, spend a little extra cash.

Leg Avenue Love Child Boots

01: “Look at Me” Shoes

I consider a good pair of look at me shoes to be statement jewelry you wear on your feet. Your look at me shoes should say something about who you are. They should make a statement and stand out – that’s the whole point. They don’t have to be boots. You can go for ballet flats, Mary Janes, pumps, stilettos – pretty much anything that really jumps out at you. I love boots. I find they are endlessly useful in a wardrobe so naturally, I tend to favor boots when I’m looking for a good pair of look at me shoes. When it comes to boots, Leg Avenue is usually my name of choice. Their boots are incredible. The Love Child boots I’ve chosen to illustrate this one are the perfect choice for me. They sort of hippie style flower is playful and fun – just like I like my fashion to be – but at the same time, the boots aren’t too dramatic. They also come in a variety of colors (black, green, hot pink, orange, pink, silver, white and yellow). If I had my way, I’d have a pair of these beauties in every color.
