The Basics

First and foremost, you need to determine the shade of green you’re working with. There are four basic categories green eyes can fall into. Before we move on to specific colors, let’s talk about those categories a little more in depth so you can determine which category you fall into. The four green levels of color are:

  • Pale Green (also sometimes called “soft green”): Pale green eyes are the lightest of all the green shades, so light the color can almost look grey. This is a great color because it’s very unique and very mysterious. Care must be taken when choosing shadow and liner for this color though because you really don’t want to distract from your color.
  • Light to Mid Green: Light to mid green eyes are probably the most ‘green’ of all the shades. Your eyes likely fall into this category if notice pale or golden flecks of colors in the green. This is a great color because, well, it’s beautiful but also it works with a variety of shadows and liners.
  • Sea Green: Sea green eyes look almost blue at times. They’re almost a turquoise kind of shade. This is another great color because, once again, it’s a beautiful color but also because you can compliment the color with a wide variety of shadows.
  • Deep Green (also sometimes called “forest green”): Deep green is the darkest of all the green shades, which is why it is also sometimes called forest green. This is a dark, deep and intense color and like sea green and light to mid-green, this color works with a variety of shadows and liners.

As you can probably tell from the descriptions above, pale green eyes can be a bit tricky to work with when compared to the other green shades but they’re still far from limited. You can do a lot of great things with pale green eyes to really enhance the color and make those eyes pop. Tyra Banks has beautiful pale green eyes and has accentuated them beautifully in the photo at the top of this section. The secret to finding the best makeup for green eyes is knowing your eyes and knowing what works for you. Now that you’ve identified your green level, it’s time to talk about shadow.

Eye Shadow for Green Eyes

When you’re working with green eyes, certain eye shadow colors will really look better with certain shades of green so you really need to make sure you choose your colors wisely. Let’s take a look at some great eye shadow options for all four color levels.
Pale Green Eyes
Almost all light or medium eye shadow shades are perfect for light green eyes but you want to avoid using darker shades. Any soft, neutral colors are also a great option as they’ll bring out the color of your eyes and compliment the lovely, mysterious pale green shade.
Light to Mid Green Eyes
Many different shadow colors work for this green level, but there are some things you’ll want to avoid. Pay carefully attention to the darkness of your shadow color. Dark shadow is often too much on light to mid green eyes so choose something that is lighter than your color. If you want to add drama to your eyes by using dark shadow, choose something lower on the darkness spectrum and keep it to the outside edges of your eyes.
Sea Green Eyes
Light to medium eye shadow shades in nearly every color look beautiful on sea green eyes. You can use dark shadow as well but it really looks best if you just use the dark shades to line your eyes. Blue eye shadow is also a wonderful, unexpected color for sea green eyes so give it a try and see what you think.
Deep Green Eyes
Any eye shadow color looks amazing with dark green eyes and I mean that in the most literal sense. There really isn’t anything that’s off limits. Dark shades are an especially good option for you if you really want to draw attention to the eyes and add intensity to your already intense color.

Eyeliner for Green Eyes

Just like with eye shadow, certain eyeliner colors work better with certain green levels. Once again, finding the best eyeliner color for green eyes means choosing a color that works with your green level. Let’s take a look at the best options for different shades of green eyes.
Pale Green Eyes
When we talked about eye shadow for pale green eyes, we discussed how important it is to choose colors that don’t distract from the color of the eye. That is just as important with eyeliner. Dark liners should be avoided unless you’re going for cat eyes or smoky eyes but in all honesty, both looks can be a little too much for pale green eyes. Instead, opt for medium shades of liner. You don’t want anything too dark or light. A nice medium brown applied lightly can really make pale green eyes look phenomenal.
Light to Mid Green Eyes
For many women with light to mid green eyes, choosing a darker shadow for eyeliner can be the better way to go. Using eye shadow for liner offers up a better selection of colors and can allow you the freedom to choose the absolute perfect shade. You can choose to use darker colors but make sure you apply them with a very light hand.
Sea Green Eyes
Sea green eyes allow a lot of freedom when choosing eye shadow but they’re also very versatile when it comes to liner as well. You can choose to line your eyes with lighter colors, mid colors and darker colors although if you really want to make those sea green eyes pop, choose to use a darker shade of shadow as your eyeliner.
Deep Green Eyes
As we talked about in the shadow section, deep green eyes are wonderfully versatile when it comes to choosing colors. This applies to eyeliner as well. Just about any eyeliner color you can imagine will work beautifully with deep green eyes although if you want the absolute best, line your beautiful deep green eyes with dark brown eyeliner.
