Talent and Luck: 3 Celebrities with the Gift of Gambling Good

For celebrities, living a lavish lifestyle is something of a norm. But lavish is often not enough for them – sometimes they venture into the range of outrageousness. Remember the jewel-encrusted toilet seat Ben Affleck bought for his then-girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, a few years ago? Or when Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes immortalizing the first solid stool of their baby by casting it in bronze? Sometimes, celebrities are seen losing massive amounts of cash at games of chance – there are many examples of actors, singers, and athletes playing games of chance in a reckless way in different Las Vegas establishments. Even though Red Flush has the best casino promotions for you, you might not want to follow their lead, and keep your gaming casual at the Red Flush online. After all, it’s all about fun, and “fun” doesn’t really mean losing a fortune at the roulette table. Playing at the Red Flush will be more rewarding than spending a million at a Vegas casino, especially since you won’t have to dress up for the evening.

Some famous actors do have, in turn, more than just a talent for acting. There are those select few that would make perfect professional gamblers if it wouldn’t often conflict with their filming schedule. Like the ones below.

Tobey Maguire

Many consider Tobey Maguire to be the ‘real’ big-screen Spider-Man. The 42-year-old actor has quite a few big roles under his belt, he runs his own production company, and is expected to make his directorial debut soon.

Maguire took up tournament poker in 2004, under the guidance of poker pro Daniel Negreanu. He participated in three consecutive editions of the World Series of Poker Main Event, and he was quite good at it, too, with his official live earnings exceeding $200,000.

Shannon Elizabeth Fadal

Remember Nadia from “American Pie”? The part of the foreign exchange student was played by Texas actor and model Shannon Elizabeth Fadal (known professionally as Shannon Elizabeth). Since her on-screen debut in 1996, she appeared in several movies and TV series, she did some modeling, a lot of charity work, and some voice works for video games. And she had a “second career” playing poker.

Since the mid-2000s, Shannon Elizabeth was considered “one of the leading celebrity poker players”. And she was good at it, too – she cashed 12 times between 2006 and 2010, played in the Main Event of the 2005 WSOP, won a special celebrity tournament at the Caesars Palace, and in 2007 she advanced to the semi-finals of the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Even though no news has been heard of her poker career since 2013, she really made an impression at the felt-covered table. As of August 2013, she had total live earnings of over $235,000.

Jennifer Tilly

American-Canadian actress Jennifer Tilly has a footlong filmography – she made her on-screen debut in 1984 and she is active to this day. She has an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in “Bullets over Broadway”, along with several other similar accolades. But she also has a second career at the felt-covered table – and she’s good at it, too.

With total live earnings of close to $1 million, Tilly is one of the most successful celebrity poker players of all time. She has a WSOP bracelet for winning the Main Event in 2005, and she finished in the money several times in WSOP and WPT. She retired from her professional poker career in 2008 but resumed it in 2010, and she is an active player ever since.
