Zooey Deschanel Hair: The Cutest Zooey Deschanel Hairstyles to Date

I love Zooey Deschanel. I love Zooey so much, in fact, that despite being completely underwhelmed by the first three episodes of New Girl’s first season and giving up on the series, I had to give it another chance just because I love Zooey so much. Glad I did as the show is great but that’s not what this post is about. No, this post is all about Zooey Dechanel hair and how it changes and evolves but still stays true to what makes Zooey special. While makeup is definitely an important part of Zooey’s look (check out our Zooey Deschanel makeup tutorial here) her hair is always the star of the show for me. The looks on this list are among my personal favorites. I’ve included a little bit of information about each style but for the most part, I really want to let the styles to speak for themselves. Enjoy!

This is another beautiful Zooey Deschanel hairstyle that is perfect for formal events for women of any age. The best part about this look is that, paired with the right outfit, it can also work for casual or semi-formal events. It’s also a breeze to do at home. Here’s how to do this Zooey Deschanel hairstyle for medium length hair. You’ll need:

  • Mousse
  • Radial brush
  • Blow dryer
  • Wax or pomade
  • Smoothing shine serum
  • Hair spray

Step One: Wash and towel dry hair until damp.
Step Two: Apply mousse evenly to your hair. Make sure you stick to the shafts of the hair, avoiding the roots.
Step Three: Part your hair in a straight part on the left. A good tip for getting your part in the right spot is to use your eye as a guide. Your part should start at the hairline above the center of your left eye. If you were parting your hair to the right, you would start the part at your hairline above the center of the right eye.
Step Four: Give your hair a little curl under using a radial brush and your blow dryer. Start at the back at the nape of neck working on the small section of hair closest to the nape. Hold your blow dryer above the section of hair you’re working on and hold your brush below the hair. Move the dryer and brush together as you pull the brush through your hair toward the end. When you reach the ends, give your brush a little twist under. Continue to do this until that section of hair is completely dry.
Step Five: Moving on to the sides of the hair, you’re going to use your brush and dryer the same way but instead of pulling the hair straight to the side, you’re going to pull it forward around your face. Continue doing this until the sides are dry.
Step Six: Blow drying the bangs is a little different because you really want to avoid frizzing in the bangs. Start by separating your bangs from the rest of your hair. Pin the rest of your hair back so it doesn’t get in your way. You can use a scarf to gently tie the hair back if that feels more comfortable to you. Now, position your brush at the roots of your bangs, keeping the tension tight. Make sure you have your bangs positioned evenly across the brush. Place the blow dryer on top of the hair and pull your brush through your bangs, moving the dryer as you move the brush. You want to make sure the heat on the hair and the tension of the hair and the brush is consistent from root to tip. This keeps your bangs smooth and frizz-free.
Step Seven: Pinch the ends of your hair with a bit of wax or pomade.
Step Eight: Carefully apply a small amount of shine serum to your hair, avoiding the roots and focusing only on the middle and ends of your hair. You don’t want the serum on your roots. It will make your hair look oily. You also want to make sure you apply the serum evenly. You don’t want to weigh down one section of your hair.
Step Nine: Finish up with a small misting of hairspray throughout your hair.
